Parks & Hiking
Barton Park & East-West Channel Bike Path
A five-acre neighborhood park at 300 W. Barton Ave with a playground, a walking path, a basketball court and the Barkin Dog Park, which has separate areas for large and small dogs. The flat East-West Channel bike path starts here and runs from H Street to V Street, which makes it a good place for kids learning to ride.
FreeBeattie Park
A 50-acre hillside park at E. Olive Ave and S. 5th St, with a children's playground, a disc golf course, two lighted basketball courts, a field and group picnic areas. A winding fitness trail through its urban forest climbs to a 'Lookout Point' gazebo, and on a clear day you can see the Pacific from there. The city has surveyed residents about upgrading the playground, so improvements may be coming.
FreeCollege Park Skate Park
Lompoc's skate park sits in College Park, off W. College Ave next to Lompoc High, the YMCA and the Aquatic Center, surrounded by shade trees and lawn. The city opened the 10,000-square-foot park in 2000 and has a state-funded plan to replace it with a larger 15,500-square-foot park with a playground, so check whether construction has it closed before you go.

A 42-acre park off Highway 1 by Allan Hancock College's Lompoc campus, between Vandenberg Village, Mission Hills and town. It has a children's playground, a big group picnic area, nature trails, horseshoes and volleyball, plus a three-pole flag monument on a bluff above the valley. A resident park ranger is on site.

A small, secluded Santa Barbara County park at 3051 San Miguelito Road, about 3.5 miles south of downtown along 'I' Street, with Miguelito Creek running through it. The county says kids love the playgrounds. There are also restrooms, horseshoes and two reservable group picnic areas.

A long riverside regional park on the Santa Ynez River at Highway 246 and Sweeney Road, with play equipment, a walking and fitness path, sand volleyball, horseshoes and Kiwanis Lake, a small stocked fishing pond that draws plenty of birds. Five group barbecue areas can be reserved, and four are sheltered. A 35-site full-hookup RV campground (no tents) makes it a handy base, about a mile from La Purísima Mission.

A 22.5-acre city park with a recently renovated, patriotic-themed playground split into separate structures for ages 2-5 and 5-12, plus picnic and barbecue areas.

Jalama Beach County Park
A remote county beach park at the end of Jalama Road (9999 Jalama Rd), about 20 miles southwest of Lompoc, with 107 ocean-view campsites, cabins and day use. It's popular with surfers and kiteboarders. It's an exposed open-coast surf beach, so watch kids closely in the water. Some Vandenberg SpaceX launches trigger evacuations or shelter-in-place notices, which the county posts on its Jalama launch page.

A county park at 6851 Ocean Park Road where the Santa Ynez River meets the sea, about 13 miles west of town off Highway 246, with a playground, barbecues and restrooms. Beach access closes every year from March 1 through September 30 for snowy plover nesting, and fishing is always banned. It's a bird-watching and photography spot rather than a swim beach.

Museums & Learning
Fabing-McKay-Spanne House (Lompoc Valley Historical Society)
The Lompoc Valley Historical Society's historic home and research room at 207 N. L Street, open Monday and Thursday mornings, with house tours on the fourth Saturday of each month. A Christmas open house is held in late November. It's best for school-age kids doing local-history projects.
FreeLompoc Public Library (Main)
The city-run main library at 501 E. North Ave, with Baby Storytime (ages 0–2) on Mondays and Family Storytime (ages 0–5) on Tuesdays, both at 10:30am. Bilingual 'Books & Bubbles' storytimes also pop up at Ryon Park. Kids like to hunt for the mouse hole with five little mice hidden under the shelves, built in 1986 and inspired by the book Anatole.

The Lompoc library system's branch at 3755 Constellation Road in Vandenberg Village, the closest library for many Vandenberg Space Force Base families. It holds a bilingual English/Spanish family storytime every Wednesday at 10:30am. It is closed Saturday through Monday.

The most fully restored Spanish mission in California, with walkable historic buildings, live farm animals, and hiking trails — a real, hands-on history lesson rather than a quick drive-by mission stop.

Lompoc Valley Flower Festival
A four-day hometown festival at Ryon Memorial Park that dates to the 1950s, with a carnival, arts and crafts, food booths, live music and a Saturday-morning parade of flower-decorated floats. It's timed to the valley's flower-field season. The nonprofit Lompoc Valley Festival Association runs it.
