Two weekends, same lineup

When & where it happens

Coachella takes over the Empire Polo Club in Indio, out in the Coachella Valley east of Palm Springs. It runs two weekends every April, Friday through Sunday, with the same lineup both weekends.

Weekend 1 — April 10–12, 2026

Usually the higher-demand, higher-energy weekend.

Weekend 2 — April 17–19, 2026

Same acts, often a touch calmer. Country sibling Stagecoach follows April 24–26.

Roughly: ~30 min from Palm Springs, ~1.5–2 hrs from Orange County, ~2–2.5 hrs from LA, ~2.5 hrs from San Diego — before festival traffic, which is a whole different animal (see below).

The hardest part

Getting there, parking & camping

Getting in and out is the single most underestimated part of Coachella. The polo grounds sit on two-lane desert roads that bottle up badly — Friday ingress and the nightly exodus after headliners can take one to three hours. Plan for it.

🚐 Shuttle pass (easiest)

The festival's own weekend shuttle pass covers unlimited rides from 16+ valley stops. No parking, no driving tired — officially the most convenient option, and there's a separate LAX shuttle pass too.

🚗 Driving & parking

General day parking is free, but everyone in the car must already have their wristband on. No tailgating, no sleeping in vehicles, and cars left after 2am get towed. Paid Preferred parking is closer.

📱 Rideshare

Dedicated Uber/Lyft lot at Ave 49 & Monroe St with shade and charging — but expect long waits and surge pricing at close (midnight to ~2:30am is the crush).

⛺ Camping

Car camping and premium tent camping (Lake Eldorado) open Thursday and run through Monday, with a nightly 9pm–2am vehicle lockdown. Camping is 18+ unless with a parent or guardian.

Buy smart

Tickets & wristbands

Coachella sells General Admission and VIP passes, plus camping and add-ons. Advance sales open the September before the festival, and it regularly sells out — 2026 sold out within about a week of the lineup drop.

Scam warning: wristbands are RFID and tied to your registration. Buy onlythrough the official site or its official resale/Ticketmaster partner — fake or "duplicate" wristbands sold on social media or by strangers are a real and common scam. Never wire money to a private seller.

The desert is not messing around

Weather & what to bring

April in the low desert means hot days and cold nights — daytime highs commonly 90–100°F, dropping to the low 50s after dark. It's bone dry and dusty, with essentially no rain.

  • High-SPF sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses for the daytime sun
  • A light jacket or layers — the nighttime temperature drop is sharp
  • A refillable water bottle (free hydration stations on-site) — dehydration is the #1 issue
  • Comfortable closed-toe shoes and a bandana/mask for the dust
  • Check the official prohibited-items list before you pack — bag and bottle rules change yearly

An honest answer

Is Coachella for kids?

Short version: not really, for young kids.Coachella is technically all-ages and children 5 & under get in free with a General Admission adult — but in practice it's a hot, crowded, loud, late-running, alcohol-friendly event designed for adults and teens. On-site camping is 18+ unless accompanied by a parent.

If you're coming to the desert as a family, the good news is the Coachella Valley is packed with genuinely great family things to do — perfect for a trip that happens to overlap the festival weekends:

🦒 The Living Desert (Palm Desert)

A world-class desert zoo & gardens — giraffe feeding, a carousel, and a kid-favorite train. Palm Desert guide →

🚡 Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Ride rotating tramcars up to 8,500 feet, 30°+ cooler than the valley floor. Palm Springs guide →

🧪 Children's Discovery Museum (Rancho Mirage)

Hands-on, air-conditioned play — a lifesaver on a triple-digit day. Rancho Mirage guide →

🌴 Shields Date Garden (Indio)

A famous date shake and a stroll through the historic date grove, minutes from the polo grounds. Indio guide →

Make a trip of it

Where to stay & Stagecoach

Hotels and rentals cluster across Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs. Festival weekends book out early and command premium rates, so reserve as far ahead as you can — on-site camping is the closest option to the gates.

If you're making a longer desert trip, note that Stagecoach— Coachella's country-music sibling — runs the very next weekend, April 24–26, 2026, at the same Empire Polo Club.

Frequently asked questions

When is Coachella 2026?

Coachella 2026 runs two weekends at the Empire Polo Club in Indio: Weekend 1 is April 10–12 and Weekend 2 is April 17–19, with the same lineup both weekends. Dates change every year, so always re-confirm at coachella.com before booking anything.

What's the best way to get to Coachella and avoid the traffic?

The festival's own shuttle passes are the least stressful option — unlimited rides from stops across the valley, no parking or DUI worries. If you drive, general day parking is free but everyone in the car must already have their wristband on, and egress after headliners can take 1–3 hours on the two-lane desert roads. Rideshare has a dedicated lot but surges and long waits from midnight to ~2:30am.

Is Coachella good for kids and families?

Honestly, not really for young kids. It's technically all-ages and children 5 and under get in free with a General Admission adult, but it's a hot, crowded, loud, late-running, alcohol-friendly event built for adults and teens (camping is 18+ unless with a parent). If you're bringing the family to the desert, we'd skip the festival with little ones and hit the family attractions nearby instead — the Living Desert zoo, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the Children's Discovery Museum in Rancho Mirage, and Shields Date Garden in Indio.

What should I bring to Coachella?

Desert April means hot days (often 90–100°F) and cold nights (down to the low 50s), so pack layers: sunscreen and a hat for the day, plus a light jacket for after dark. Bring a refillable water bottle for the free hydration stations, comfortable closed-toe shoes, and a bandana or mask for the dust. Check the official prohibited-items list before you pack — bag and bottle rules change.

How do I buy Coachella tickets safely?

Buy only through the official festival site or its official resale/Ticketmaster partner. Coachella wristbands are RFID and tied to your registration, so fake or duplicate wristbands sold elsewhere are a real scam risk. Advance sales open the September before the festival, and 2026 sold out — if you're buying resale, stick to the official channel and never wire money to a stranger.
