When do SoCal pumpkin patches open?
Most Southern California pumpkin patches open in mid-to-late September and run through Halloween. The bigger farms with attractions tend to open first and get busiest on October weekends, so if you want a calmer visit, aim for a weekday or the first couple weeks of the season. Hours and opening dates shift year to year, so it's always worth checking the specific farm's website before you go.
Are pumpkin patches free, or do they charge admission?
It varies a lot. Many neighborhood and church lots are free to walk through and you just pay for the pumpkins you buy, while larger destination farms often charge for parking or sell tickets or wristbands for activities like hayrides, corn mazes, and petting zoos. Expect roughly $5 to $20 or more per child for activity access at the bigger patches. Check whether a farm charges general admission or is pay-per-activity before you arrive.
Which pumpkin patches are best for toddlers?
Toddlers usually do best at farms with gentle, low-key attractions rather than sprawling corn mazes or long lines. Look for a small petting zoo, a hay maze or bale area to climb, a train or tractor-pulled wagon ride, and plenty of flat, stroller-friendly ground. Going right at opening on a weekday means smaller crowds, shorter waits, and cooler temperatures, which makes a big difference with little ones.
