Our standards & corrections

Families drive to the places we list. Here is how we try to keep listings true, and what we do when we get one wrong.

Where facts come from

  • Prices, hours, dates and seasons come from the venue's or organizer's own website or its city/agency page whenever one exists. When they do not publish a number, we say so instead of guessing.
  • Hours, ratings and phone numbers shown from Google are labeled as Google's data and can be wrong; confirm before a special trip.
  • Events with dates that have passed drop off automatically. Events whose 2026–27 date is not yet published are shown as tentative or left out — we do not infer a date from last year.

Who writes what

  • Guides, city pages and the first-hand notes on place pages are written by a person (see About).
  • Some place pages carry a summary of what parents say in public reviews. Those are AI-written summaries, labeled as such, and are not our own visit.
  • Some weekly blog posts are drafted by AI from our own place data and labeled on the post. They describe what a place offers; they do not claim anyone visited.

Checking

We run automated checks on outbound links and dates, and periodic fact-check sweeps that compare a sample of listings against the operator's own page. The most recent sweep (September 2026) found a hard-error rate of roughly one in ten in the sample, which is why we are adding a "verified on" date to listings as they are re-checked. Where a listing shows no verified date, treat it as not yet re-checked.

Money

We do not run display ads. Some tour and ticket links are affiliate links, marked sponsored; if you book through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links never change where a place ranks or what we say about it.

Email hello@yoursocal.com or use Suggest a spot. Tell us the page and what is wrong. We fix confirmed errors quickly and add them to the log below.

Corrections log

  • 2026-09-20Disneyland: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is listed with a 40-inch minimum height (it previously read "None"). Checked on Disneyland's own attraction page.
  • 2026-09-20Disneyland tickets: two pages disagreed about Costco. Both now say Costco stopped selling Disneyland tickets in 2025.
  • 2026-09-20Griffith Park: the listing was titled for pony rides and a carousel that have been closed since 2022. It is now just Griffith Park, with a note to check before planning a ride.
  • 2026-09-20California Surf Museum: adult admission corrected to about $10 (it said about $5).
  • 2026-09-20Removed listings for businesses that had closed or that pointed at the wrong company: Graziano's (Yorba Linda), Fahrenheit 451 Books (Carlsbad), La Mesa Boutique, Brite Spot (Echo Park), and two restaurants we could not confirm exist at the listed city (Il Dolce, Aliso Viejo; Bluewater Grill, Oceanside).
  • 2026-09-20Six listings linked to websites that had been taken over by unrelated gambling or spam pages after the businesses let the domains lapse. The links were replaced or removed, and we now run a link and spam check across every outbound link.
  • 2026-09-20Mission Viejo Concerts in the Park: we had it as every Sunday; the city ran four select dates. It now lists the actual dates.
  • 2026-09-20Removed an unverified splash pad at Moorpark's Arroyo Vista Community Park. The city's own amenity list for the park does not include one.
  • 2026-09-20Place pages no longer show "Open 24 hours" or "Closed now" from Google's data for beaches, open parks and venues where that data is unreliable.
