- Rec & after-school: The Isla Vista Recreation & Park District runs a free after-school program for IV residents in grades 1-6 at the IV Community Center.
- Summer program: IVRPD's summer program takes kids entering grades 1-6 and provides free breakfast and lunch with Goleta Union School District support.
- Library: Isla Vista is served by Goleta Valley Library, whose Bookvan stops at the IVCSD Community Center while the main library is under construction.

Things to do in Isla Vista
Parks & Hiking
Anisq'Oyo' Park
Isla Vista's first community-built park, in the middle of town, with a historic windmill, a large freshwater pond with ducks, herons, turtles and frogs, children's play equipment, picnic tables and restrooms. Its amphitheater hosts the district's free Movies in the Park, seasonal concerts and a Halloween pumpkin patch. It is the most kid-friendly spot in downtown IV, and mornings are quietest.
FreeChildren's Park
A family-focused park in a residential pocket of Isla Vista, with play equipment in a sand pit, a large shade structure with picnic tables, a hilltop gazebo, barbecues, a restroom and a shady oak grove. The district is fundraising for a full renovation, so expect changes. It suits toddlers through early grade-schoolers.
FreeEstero Park & Pump Track
One of IV's largest parks, running between Camino Del Sur and Camino Corto, with a pump track, a disc golf course, basketball courts, a playing field and children's play equipment. The St. George Youth Center (YMCA) at Estero and Camino Del Sur offers free tutoring and programs for grades 5–12. It's a good fit for bike-riding big kids.
FreeTierra de Fortuna Park
At the far west end of Isla Vista (the end of Fortuna Road), this playground has swings, a slide, a merry-go-round, a springy seesaw and a play structure, plus a vine-covered gazebo with mountain views. The district says it is one of its most-rented parks for birthday parties. It connects to the Kids' Trail and the Del Sol vernal pools.
FreeTrigo-Pasado Park
A long strip of lawn linking Trigo and Pasado roads, with an 11-foot climbing boulder that is the main attraction for kids, plus a picnic table and drinking fountain. It suits confident climbers with a spotter. There's no playground, so pair it with Anisq'Oyo' a few blocks away.
FreeSea Lookout Park
The largest ocean-side park in Isla Vista, a grassy bluff-top green space with a volleyball court, benches, and a wooden staircase down to a rugged beach below.
FreeBeaches & Coast
Isla Vista Beach Accesses (El Embarcadero, Camino Pescadero & more)
County-owned stairways and paths lead from the Del Playa bluffs down to the beach at El Embarcadero, Camino Pescadero, Sueño, Escondido Pass and Camino Majorca. Camino Pescadero has a small park with picnic tables, Chumash history signs and an outdoor shower. The beach is narrow below steep cliffs and the tide can cut it off, so check a tide table, go at low tide, and never let kids climb the bluffs.
FreePelican Park
A small county-owned Del Playa bluff park with a Channel Islands theme, featuring signs about the gray whales and pelicans you can spot offshore, stone 'couches,' a seashell-inlaid fountain and a terrazzo ping-pong table. Keep kids well back from the bluff edge, because Isla Vista's cliffs are unstable and have collapsed after storms. Visit in daylight.
