- Library card: Montecito Library at 1469 East Valley Rd. is a Santa Barbara Public Library branch, open Tuesday through Saturday.
- Find your school: Montecito Union and Cold Spring are separate one-school elementary districts; check Montecito Union's residency boundaries for your address.
- Upper grades: After elementary, Montecito students continue in Santa Barbara Unified junior highs and high schools; see its boundary maps.

Parks & Hiking
Cold Spring Trail
Starts where Mountain Dr crosses Cold Spring Creek (in Gould Park). The first stretch along the year-round stream and sandstone pools is the kid-friendly part; turn around before the trail heads up toward the ridge. It's not on the 2026–27 Forest Service closure list. Expect bikes, dogs on leash and poison oak.
Free; roadside parking at Mountain DrEnnisbrook Trail
An easy, shady, nearly level walk through the 44-acre San Ysidro oak woodland, with a stone bridge over San Ysidro Creek and a eucalyptus grove used by monarch butterflies. The January 2018 debris flow devastated the area, and the Land Trust says restoration is ongoing. Enter through the gate by the small green building on San Leandro Ln.
Free; street parking on San Leandro LnHot Springs Canyon Trail
A moderate canyon hike from Mountain Dr up to old hot-spring pools. The pools aren't maintained, and the Land Trust calls water quality vital for endangered species, so it's better for looking than soaking. Parking is extremely limited, so carpool and have a backup trail. It isn't on the Forest Service's 2026–27 storm closure list; the city ran a trail cleanup in Sept 2026.

A creekside canyon trail from East Mountain Dr with small pools and a waterfall along the way. The full trail climbs to East Camino Cielo, so pick a turnaround point at the pools or falls with younger kids. It's not on the Forest Service's Sept 2026–Sept 2027 storm-damage closure list, but check conditions after rain. Dogs on leash; poison oak is common.

The one genuinely public, free family park in Montecito, with a rose garden, a picnic meadow, and a toddler playground — a rare no-cost option in a town otherwise known for private estates and ticketed gardens like Lotusland.

Coast Village Road
Montecito's walkable main street just off the 101, with bakeries, cafés, boutiques and hotels in Mediterranean-style buildings. Butterfly Beach and Miramar Beach are a short drive or bike ride away, so it works as a lunch stop on a beach day.
