The most fully restored Spanish mission in California, with walkable historic buildings, live farm animals, and hiking trails — a real, hands-on history lesson rather than a quick drive-by mission stop.

We really enjoyed our visit to La Purisima Mission State Historical Park. To start, there was ample parking to accommodate our 25 foot RV. As we entered the park, there is a visitors center. Passing the visitors center, there is the actual Purisima Mission and trails. Our first stop was the Eastern Longhorn corral. They were fun to watch as they grazed and relaxed. Passing the corral we began the tour of the mission buildings. Each room displayed what life was like for the early Spanish priests, soldiers and local Chumash natives: their bedrooms, the kitchens, the offices, the dining and living rooms. There were shops for the blacksmith, weavers, cooks, mills, and tanner. There were chickens and turkeys and a garden that displayed the many plants that were used for cooking, medicine, and weaving. We enjoyed the petting the friendly horses. The church itself was beautiful. We really felt like we were stepping back into the 1700's. I will definitely want to visit again when im back in California. If youre allergic to bees or ants, I highly recommend carrying your epipen.

A historical site, it's more than just a museum. I'm not a museum person, but this time I enjoy the experience. The lady on the entrance was very cheerful and gave a thoroughly fast guidance while paying the fee. The area is huge and we can feel the ancient life better by going through the different chambers there.
