Who lands here

Families looking for more room and newer neighborhoods, and workers commuting across the eastern Coachella Valley.

The vibe

A working, family-oriented city with a downtown that hosts the Indio International Tamale Festival each December and regular Food Truck Fridays. Festival weekends each April bring huge crowds and traffic.

Schools

Most of Indio is in Desert Sands Unified, but Coachella Valley Unified also serves parts of the city. Schools are assigned by address, so check the right district's lookup before you choose a home.

Getting around

SunLine buses cover the valley, with youth fares of $0.85 and free rides for high schoolers through the Haul Pass; Greyhound's Indio Bus Station is on Indio Boulevard. Palm Springs International Airport is the nearest commercial airport. Most families drive.

Finding your community

The Desert Recreation District runs Indio's community center and Pawley Pool, and the city runs a free Teen Center for 8th–12th graders. The library is a Riverside County Library branch. Sign up for the city's Smart911 alerts and Riverside County's Alert RivCo.

Now go explore Indio
