🧭 Moving to Riverside County

Just moved to Riverside?

Riverside is the county seat and the Inland Empire's largest city, with UC Riverside, a historic downtown and its own city-run library, pools and alert system.

Who lands here

Families priced out of Orange County and LA, university and hospital staff, government workers, and multigenerational households drawn by older neighborhoods and relatively lower housing costs.

The vibe

A real city with distinct neighborhoods, from downtown and Wood Streets to Arlington, La Sierra and Orangecrest; hotter and drier than the coast, with citrus-belt history.

Schools

Most of Riverside is in Riverside Unified, while western neighborhoods such as La Sierra and Arlanza are in Alvord Unified. Schools follow your street address, so check both district locators before you sign a lease.

Getting around

Driving is the norm, but Metrolink stops at Riverside-Downtown, La Sierra and Hunter Park/UCR, and RTA buses are free for riders 18 and under through June 30, 2027.

Finding your community

Riverside Public Library runs eight locations plus a toy lending library. Register for RiversideAlert as well as Alert RivCo, and learn your Genasys Protect zone; the city used them during the May 2026 Bain Fire.

Now go explore Riverside

A friendly orientation, not advice. Neighborhoods, schools and prices change and depend on your exact address — always verify school assignments and lease details directly. New to the area? Start with the New to SoCal hub.
