Things to do in El Cajon
The Water Conservation Garden
Nearly six acres of themed demonstration gardens on the Cuyamaca College campus, including a native plant garden, a vegetable plot and a dirt play area kids actually get to dig in. Parking is free on site, and the second Friday makes admission free too.

Heritage of the Americas Museum
A small four-gallery museum covering Native American and pre-Columbian artifacts, fossils, minerals and western art. It's directly next door to the Water Conservation Garden, so the two make one natural trip with free parking.

Built in 1876 and the oldest commercial building in El Cajon, covering the valley's ranching origins. It opens only two Saturdays a month, so pair it with the downtown farmers market rather than making a special trip.
