El Cajon Library

El Cajon, CA

★★★★4.3(201 Google reviews)

The largest county branch in East County, with a substantial children's area, storytimes and a world-languages collection that reflects El Cajon's communities. It's a block from Prescott Promenade, so it slots easily around a downtown event.

I seriously hate this place, and I’ve been coming here since highschool. The staff are kind, love the tall blonde guy. There’s so many issues. For context, I come here to study. There is always someone coughing with full phlegm, LOUDLY. My headphones shouldn’t be turned all the way up and I can still hear these loud, echoing mucus bomb coughs. Besides that, the amount of noise in this place is also insane. There are no silent places to study. The quietest, safest, and most study friendly place is the teen area. But if you age out, you don’t have access to it anymore, even if you’re clearly a college student who just needs a place to study lol. On top of this, most of this library smells horrendous, you walk in and it immediately smells like body odor. You will encounter 1-2 homeless people who trot in to relax or somehow find a way to walk past your table multiple times. The smell issue is just particularly horrible. I’m a young woman. The amount of creepy dudes here is ridiculous. I’ve had OLD men come to my table where I am clearly occupied, try to kiss my hand, or try to strike up conversation with me about nothing. Safety is not guaranteed here, besides security guards who crack down on people eating sometimes. The most horrible crime that can be done in this library. I am mentally exhausted by this place.

Analaura and Kelsey were extremely helpful during my visit to the library. They were both proactive is asking if patrons required assistance on the computers. They are both assets to the El Cajon Library.
