Lakeside River Park Trail
Lakeside, CA

★★★★★4.7(3 Google reviews)
A flat, wide two-mile riverside path along the north bank of the San Diego River, easy going for bikes, scooters and strollers. Park at the Channel Road trailhead; there's very little shade along the river, so mornings are best.

The Lakeside River Park segment of the San Diego River Trail is a 2-mile-long wide dirt path that starts at Channel Road in Lakeside and ends at the Lakeside Baseball Park in Lakeside. The trail continues for another 1.1 miles in Santee but under the name of San Diego River Trail - Walker Preserve or Walker Preserve Trail. Google maps does not reflect the name differences, however. Check Google Maps satellite option if you really want to see the trail segments. The Lakeside River Park segment is a nice place for a walk. The trail is shaded in the section that runs between the golf course and river. The rest of the trail offers no shade. Don’t miss: the covered waterfowl viewing area, Pocket Park picnic and rest area, and the swallow nests under the Riverford Road overpass. Park in the lot next to the trailhead on Channel Road. Parking is also available at the Lakeside Baseball Park.
