A steady climb of roughly seven miles round trip to a summit with lake and valley views. This is a real hike, not a stroll, with rocky and steep sections. Reviewers repeatedly warn there is little shade, so go early or late and carry water. Snakes and bees are mentioned, and bikers share the trail.
A roughly 7-mile round trip climbing to a wide view over Lake Hodges and the inland valleys — realistic for kids around eight and up. Carry more water than feels necessary; there's no shade and no water on the route.

The trail is in good condition, some sections are rocky and steep but doable. I seen a Hawk showing off her beautiful glides up on the sky. Lots of bunnies along the trail. I saw snake track on the sandy part of the trail. There many bees by the small wooden bridge. I’m not sure why they were hanging out on the wet part of the soil. The summit was pretty, lots of white butterflies and hummingbirds and could see the other beautiful mountains.

Good local hike with well-marked, clear trails. The climb is steady but not too tough, making it a solid workout without being overwhelming. Views of Lake Hodges and the surrounding hills are the highlight, especially from the summit. Limited shade, so bring water and go early. A reliable, go-to hike for Rancho Bernardo.
