Mary Pickford Theatre

Cathedral City, CA

★★★★★4.6(3,568 Google reviews)

This landmark cinema in the downtown arts district shows first-run films with recliner seating, house-made ice cream and hand-crafted pizza. Tuesdays are the bargain day with most movies around $6.95. A perfect midday escape when triple-digit desert temps make an air-conditioned theater the smartest plan.

You can find me here often with my feet up and laid back in a cozy lounge chair. If it's the Opera, there will be a glass of red wine beside me; if it's a Pop Concert, my feet will be swinging and I'll have a free Senior's Pop Corn near me. All fun.

Always love coming to this theater. But what really stood out tonight was Christian behind the counter. His customer service skills are beyond amazing and accommodating. We were not having such a great day until we came to the movies and he helped us out. Thanks Christian. I hope this review doesn’t get unnoticed. I hope management actually read these reviews

This theatre is not in the business of selling movie tickets. I showed up at 6:50pm at the window of the box office for a 6:50pm screening. They asked me to chose a seat from their computer screen. I opted for D3. My request was denied based on the availability of D1, D2 and D4. The manager explained in person after failing to reply to my email that the cluster of 4 seats needed to be occupied by 4 people and not by one. The manager explained that he serves food like in a restaurant and that a cluster of 4 seats is like a table of 4. Went on to say that all theatres do this, while no other theatre ever refused my seat selection. He said that his theatre has been doing this since they have a reservation system without providing any evidence. However, he did mention that it was a Tuesday night, meaning that reduced fare patrons should be treated accordingly…. and that the fine prints of the terms and conditions of the ticket sale give him full discretion as where he wants to seat the audience. It was an eye opener to discuss with Mr Hane how it was only a sound dose of discretionary power that led his staff to deny me access to an available seat in auditorium 12. When I asked Mr Hane if those seats (D1, D2, D3 & D4) had been sold, he said he did not know (because they obviously weren’t). I will not return to this theatre and I will tirelessly work on sparing all the people I know from the “discretionary power” of the Mary Pickford is D Place Theatre personnel.

Lots of choices for shows and times Comfortable recliners Reasonable prices Friendly service Clean Wheel chair accessible We decided to see The Color Purple the day after Christmas. TMPT had 7 different times it was playing. We like that TMPT was just a short drive from our resort on Palm Springs. The tickets were half price because it was Tuesday! We were running late, but my partner had bought our tickets on-line.  He dropped me off in front of the theater and went to find a parking spot. I was greeted by the most friendly ticket taker. He also warmly greeted my honey by name when he walked through the door. If my memory is correct--his name is Steve. He then pointed us to the direction of our theater. Our viewing room was filled with full reclining chairs (which were very comfortable). We weren't hungry, but we could have had food delivered to our comfy recliners. We will definitely go there again.

Wow! I have to say, I haven't been here in a while but my experience was great. We went on a Wednesday so our theatre had only one other person in there. The seats were very comfy and I swear there is a built in pillow for your head. It reclines back. The restroom was very clean and smelled good. I will definitely be coming here now more often. They have an arcade area. I liked the duck grabber. I won one.
