Things to Do in Twentynine Palms with Kids

Twentynine Palms is the north gateway to Joshua Tree National Park, and the desert magic starts right in town: the stroller-friendly palm oasis of the Oasis of Mara, a downtown scavenger hunt through the giant Oasis of Murals, and some of the darkest night skies in California at the free Sky's The Limit observatory.

💡 Local tip: Everything outdoors is a cool-morning activity in summer — the desert sun is punishing midday. Time a new-moon Saturday for the observatory's free star party, and always carry way more water than you think you'll need.

Oasis of Mara (Joshua Tree NP North)

A flat, paved half-mile loop winds beneath rustling fan palms at one of California's most accessible desert oases — easy enough for strollers and little legs, with interpretive signs on the Serrano people who once lived here. Come early morning when it's cool, and you may spot birds and lizards near the water.
