This is a very nice little museum well worth the time to visit. They rotate the featured display regularly, and it is always well done and interesting. In addition to the history of the area, the museum has a weekly rotation of midday activities including videos, discussions, crafts and displays. Their website publishes a schedule every month. A good place to go in the summer to beat the heat. The building itself is part of the history of the area, well worth a visit in its own right. They have a courtyard that offers an occasional concert or lecture. And best of all, it's free.

It’s not a very well developed museum. For example, nearly the entire ground floor is dedicated to showing off paintings by artists from LA and has zero to do with the history of La Quinta. There is brief mention of Spanish civilization, but not a single word devoted to Mexican life up until 1848 and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago. Very odd. The grounds are beautiful and the facility is immaculate. My favorite are these beautifully carved Indian arrowheads (all 5 of them). Overall, the substance and content has to be completely reoriented to make it an authentic museum of La Quinta history.

I had a wonderdul and peaceful visit at the La Quinta Museum. I love history, especially California history, and La Quinta has an amazing history from tribes to movies. The contemporary exhibit was awesome and the history on the second floor is mind-blowing. I could have stayed at the museum forever. Clean restrooms, Friendly host at the desk and I got a little sticker to go. I will be back soon.

Museum is in a newer building between the original buildings that were the early start of LA Quenta and the sales office for the casitas.
