  Quiet, peaceful, serene. I went to visit the Pier after work because I heard it was close. The sun was already starting to say, and the views were spectacular. Walked to the end and had a nice dinner while watching the sun go down over the waves. It was the perfect way to end a busy work day.

  We visited on a Friday afternoon (We parked in the parking lot on 108 Elkwood Avenue, which is only one or two blocks from the ocean and the pier. Since we visited from 1-3 PM, we were within the open hours (6A-10:30P) limit. The short walk was doable even with two small children and a wagon. The pier is very well-maintained with accessible bathrooms, one of each. There are plenty of trash cans. All along the pier are interesting surprises, like the pavilion that had fish and bubble shapes on the roof, which casted cute shadows on the pier below. At the end of the pier is a fantastic restaurant that serves fish and chips and has outdoor seating with umbrellas. I would recommend not to overestimate the sun’s intensity when you’re out on the pier: nothing is shaded so pretend you’re out on a boat in the ocean when you apply SPF. We did not fish from the pier but the pier was well-equipped to fish easily (slots to put fishing rod in, fish-cleaning sinks, etc). Definitely a must-visit in San Diego.

  As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series and SERA Archives Thriller Series, I’ve spent a lot of time around Imperial Beach Pier dreaming up thriller scenes for my books, and it’s the main centerpiece of Imperial Beach. Stretching out roughly 1,400 feet into the Pacific, the pier is visible from miles away and defines the shoreline here. It’s a major attraction for both locals and visitors. I used to fish here regularly and even spent nights out on the pier when I was in high school, and it’s exactly the kind of place that could anchor high-tension moments in one of my thriller book novels, with open water on one side and a long, exposed structure stretching into the dark. There are usually lots of people fishing along the pier, which gives it a lively, authentic feel. It’s a great spot whether you’re casting a line yourself or just walking out and taking in the ocean views. At the end of the pier, you’ll find Imperial Beach Kitchen, a unique Korean-influenced spot that adds a fun and unexpected twist to the whole visit. I’ve also spent a lot of time out here simply walking the beach and thinking through ideas while writing The Maui Desire Romance Series. I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from this location, from the beach and the people to the long stretches of sand between the pier and the rock jetties to the north. Overall it’s a classic Southern California pier with a laid-back vibe, great fishing, and a lot of history for anyone who’s been coming here over the years.

  Perfect beach if you want a quiet walk. Had a great time and found 24 dollars in sand dollars. Great tacos and beer at Mike Hess Brewing. Had a great night stay at Pier South Resort Autograph Collection and a great Burger and drinks at Sammy’s restaurant.

  Super nice pier, lots of people were fishing off of the pier and there’s a really yummy restaurant all the way at the end. Definitely recommend getting a lobster roll - it was great!! Wasn’t too packed and we were lucky enough to get street parking.
