San Gabriel Valley family guide

Things to Do in Diamond Bar with Kids

Diamond Bar sits in the rolling hills where the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys meet, and its best outing is genuinely wild: Sycamore Canyon Park, with a shaded creekside trail leading to a little seasonal waterfall. Add hilltop Summitridge, the well-equipped Pantera and Peterson play-and-skate parks, and 575-acre Schabarum just over the line, and it's a surprisingly outdoorsy town.

💡 Local tip: Sycamore Canyon's waterfall only really flows after winter rains, and the open mesa stretch bakes — start early. Schabarum charges $7/car on weekends but is free on weekdays.

Head a short way up from the play structure to reach the little overlook waterfall, which flows best after winter rains. Start early on hot days — the mesa par-course section is exposed.

Carlton J. Peterson Park

A local favorite with a padded-surface playground plus a skate park, so it works for a wide range of ages at once. Ball fields, picnic tables and barbecues make it a solid pick for a weekend cookout with the kids. There's a short walking path if the grown-ups want to stretch their legs.
