Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden
Tranquil historic Japanese garden with koi ponds and a teahouse for a calm outing. Japanese landscape designer Kinzuchi Fujii built the hill-and-pond garden between 1935 and 1940, transforming what had been a pair of tennis courts into ponds, bridges, and paths. The original teahouse, Niko-an, burned down in 1981 and was later rebuilt to Fujii's exact original plans; the garden earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

South Pasadena Public Library
The library at 1100 Oxley St runs Tuesday storytime (10:30am) and Thursday storytimes (10:30 and 11am) in the Community Room at 1115 El Centro St through Nov 21, plus Toddler Dance Parties for ages 1–3. The Panda Cub Reading Challenge is for ages 4–12. Call 626-403-7330 to confirm the schedule.

Barnes Park
An 11-acre central park with a children's playground, an amphitheater, reservable picnic shelters, a fitness court and tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, walkable from City Hall and the library. The city says the Barnes Park pool is being revitalized, so don't plan a swim here.

Alhambra Autumn Festival
A city-run morning at Alhambra Park (500 N. Palm Ave) with a pumpkin patch maze, petting zoo, pony rides, crafts and games. Magic shows run at 9:30 and 11:30am with a character performance and photo time from 10 to 11:15am. Tip: arrive by 9:30am for the first magic show before the petting zoo and pony lines build.
