Shady creekside singletrack leads to Red Rock Canyon's mini badlands — a payoff hike that feels like a desert adventure for kids.

This is a great area for hiking. Can combine trails to do anywhere from couple of miles to 15 or so. My first time here was in mid-December - went with a meetup group. Parked in front of CVS then crossed Portola to get to the trailhead - the parking lot there is small and requires 3$ payment. We did Mustard trail to the gate, then back to Vista Lookout, then the loop around Billy Goat (lots of stairs) almost touching Santiago Canyon Rd, then back to the intersection to do a mile out-and-back to Red Rock Chateau, then back to the parking lot. It came to around 11 miles with a little over 2000 feet elevation gain. Very well maintained trails. If you're going after rains, make sure to check the OC parks website to see if the park is open. At Red Rock Chateau, there are clear signs to not cross the ropes, but people were still climbing the rocks to pose for social media photos, which was infuriating - please respect the wilderness.

My first time here and I wasn’t impressed as soon as I entered the parking lot. Boy was I wrong! The oak trees, gorgeous! The wildlife, amazing! The red rock canyon, wow so impressive. I will definitely be back. Loved my time here

Very nice variety of hiking trails here, some easy ones shaded in the "valley", some hilly ones with a good view. cool rocks if you make it to the red rock canyon. lots of wildlife too

It was a nice hike. There was a good amount of parking and it was obvious where the trail started. It was a great trail with highs, flats, and dips so we got plenty of rest between the inclines. Since it's nice and cool out the hike was perfect. We caught the sunset and it was absolutely beautiful. Worth the drive and worth the hike. We will definitely be back.

Whiting Ranch is a great spot for biking, with lots of scenic trails. Just be careful — many paths have loose rocks, and it’s easy to slip if you’re not paying attention. I’d also recommend not going too late, because once it gets dark, visibility drops and it can get dangerous. Overall, it’s a beautiful place to ride, just stay safe!
