AI summary of 5 Google reviews — not a first-hand visit. How we write these

Paid parking at the trailhead, and reviewers say the lot fills, so arrive early. Restrooms are well kept and there are picnic benches. Most trails run along ridgelines with almost no tree cover, so hats and sunscreen. Trails turn muddy after rain, and cyclists share them.

Start at Trippet Ranch for gentle oak-shaded trails and grassy meadows with ocean views — an easy intro to the Santa Monica Mountains for families. The ranch was homesteaded in the 1890s and later became a private weekend retreat for the Trippet family before California bought the land with a 1964 park bond and opened it to the public in 1974. From the old ranch grounds, trails fan out across more than 36 miles of the park, including a stretch of the Backbone Trail.

So many hiking options to choose from. We went out towards the ocean. I think it was a six mile out and back. Some grades but not too taxing. Not too much wildlife. A lot of little lizards. We could not see the Pacific due to the marine layer. Pretty much had the place to ourselves. Super nice Ranger at the gate. Fee was nominal.

Great location and trails for all types of hiker: easy to expert, short and multi mile trails. Get there early as parking is limited; pay to park in the lot at the vase of most trailheads or find street parking for free. There are trails along the street that will take to the main lot as well. Highly recommend!!
