A 400-acre oak and chaparral preserve on Wildcat Canyon Rd. with a well-marked 2.5-mile loop that suits school-age hikers, and leashed dogs are welcome. Rangers and the San Diego Astronomy Association host free star parties on the second Saturday of each month. Shade is limited on the loop, so go early in summer.
