A pine-and-oak state park along Highway 79 south of Julian, with Paso Picacho campground, picnic areas and a self-guided Paso Picacho Nature Trail. Dogs are not allowed on trails (only campgrounds, picnic areas, paved roads and the Cuyamaca Peak Fire Road). In snow season, check Caltrans QuickMap and the park line (760-765-3020) before driving, and park only in legal turnouts, never on the highway shoulder.
