Julian, CA

★★★★★4.7(482 Google reviews)

This conservation facility south of town lets families see ambassador gray and Mexican wolf packs while learning about recovery efforts in North America. Tours are reservation-only and meet at the K Q Ranch Road facility, not the downtown nature store, so book ahead and plan the extra drive.

My wife and I had an incredible experience on the enrichment tour. Our tour guide (whose name I wish I remembered! She had a very cool hat) was hilarious, informative, and had a genuine love for the wolves we were learning about. I learned so much about Mexican grey wolves and the work the center is doing, and had such a good time on this tour. The walking is minimal and there were benches available for seating at the two enclosures we visited. We can’t wait to come back!

Visiting the wolf center for the enrichment tour was amazing. Ryan was the most engaging, hilarious tour guide. He was more than happy to take our constant stream of questions and was incredibly knowledgeable about the center as well as current wolf conservation efforts. We saw four wolves during our tour, three up close (Yana, Thor, Durango) and one from a distance (Poppi). If I lived nearby I’d want to volunteer here!

I booked an enrichment tour on a Monday for my partner and I. We were the only two there so it turned into a private tour! The guide was very knowledgeable and passionate. The wolves got fed bison meatballs! It was a blast to learn about the conservation and history surrounding the subspecies of wolves they have on site.

The enrichment tour was amazing, I loved how knowledgeable the tour guides and volunteers were. The wolves were beautiful and you could tell that they were very well cared for here. I added a video of one burying a chicken leg right by the visitor viewing area. Wow! There was also a tiny gift shop on site, which was great since we didn't have time to stop by the larger one in Julian.

My friend and I did the enrichment tour on 8/8/25 and it was incredible. I went into the tour not really knowing what to expect except what was provided in the description on the website. The tour was way more than I thought it was. It was highly educational and informative. I learned so much about wolves and the conservation efforts. It was amazing to be able to see these wolves and learn more about them. I walked away with a much better understanding of these truly magnificent creatures. The guide did a phenomenal job of educating us and answering all of our questions. I highly recommending the enrichment tour and visiting the gift shop in Julian!
