Eagle Mining Company

Julian, CA

★★★★★4.6(601 Google reviews)

Just up C Street at the edge of downtown, this genuine 1870s hard-rock gold mine gives a guided walk through about 1,000 feet of lantern-lit tunnels, and kids get to try gold panning. Bring a light jacket even in summer — the mine stays cool underground — and remember it's cash only.

Very interesting tour, John was a great tour guide and very informative. Learning how to pan for gold also was an interesting experience. We had a small group of about 10, so it wasn't too crowded inside the mine with that size of group. The tour was maybe about 35-40 minutes including the panning. Definitely worth the stop if you are in Julian!

The tour was incredible! The mine is authentic and very informative. The guides and owners take incredible pride in what they do. Turn left from Main St downtown Julian and follow the signs. Definitely worth the price.

I had a great experience at Eagle Mine in Julian today. I was sent there by my claustrophobia therapist as part of exposure practice, and the staff could not have been more accommodating or supportive. They let me do a self-guided tour of the mine at my own pace, which made a huge difference. I never felt rushed or pressured, and I really appreciated their understanding. Shout out to Paul for being especially kind and helpful. Even while doing the tour in a way that worked for me, I still got to learn about the history of the mine and had fun panning for gold. Highly recommend, especially if you want an interesting and welcoming experience in Julian.

Come visit. The tour is very informative and guides are cool. The history of this place is entertaining. There's also barbecue and other grilled food items available for purchase on the weekends.
