Chino Hills State Park

Chino Hills, CA

90+ miles of trails with almost no shade and common rattlesnakes — go early, carry water, and skip it after rain (the clay roads close).

I recently took a walk at Chino Hills State Park (2/14) and had an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. It was getting late so I only went 2 miles in on the paved road. The trails were well maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to explore without any confusion. The beautiful green hills rolling in every direction were stunning and made the entire hike feel peaceful and refreshing. It’s such an easy hike that it’s perfect for beginners, families, or anyone just looking for a relaxing walk outdoors. The gentle elevation changes provide light exercise without being tiring or overwhelming. I loved how quiet it felt, even though it’s conveniently close to town. There were plenty of scenic spots to pause, take photos, and enjoy the wide-open views. Overall, it was a simple, enjoyable, and uplifting hike that I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for an easy outdoor escape. *Free street parking just outside of the entrance.

Best time to go is a week after it rains. It is so green and scenic! It's called Chino Hills for a reason, plan on hiking or riding up hills on your MTB. The initial climb, if you park on the street on Elvinar or Sapphire, is a pretty good workout. There isn't a lot of shade, so bring lots of water. Going in is mostly descending, so save your energy for coming back out as it is mostly ascending.

Beautiful state park! The green hills and flowers were absolutely breathtaking! The canyon loop was easy and enjoyable but anything else had me gasping for breath with those inclines! Even with that I would still 100% recommend, the views were more than worth it!

2025 May 10th. Mustard flowers were super awesome. I plan to visit soon for 2026. Be careful, it's so hot without any shade. So, plan accordingly. I was almost killing my friends 😀

There are many trails along the road. Good for hiking trail for short or long distance. But it is better for mountain biking or trail running with some elevation.
