Borrego Springs Dark Sky Stargazing

Borrego Springs, CA

★★★★★4.7(4,015 Google reviews)

Borrego Springs was California's first certified International Dark Sky Community, and with 300+ clear nights a year the Milky Way is often visible to the naked eye. Families can lie back on a blanket away from town lights or join a seasonal star party. Bring layers since desert nights cool fast, and check the moon phase — darkest near a new moon.

600,000 Ac you could spend a month there. We droved and hiked plum canyon area as well as the slot. We also hiked the Borrego Palm Canyon Trail. Over cast day and not too hot so was a nice walk. We just missed all the flowering plans by a week, however we were lucky to see some cacti still flowering and some critters running about. The only disappointment was taking the one trail expecting to see some big horn sheep and flowering willows ( per the rangers recommendation) oh yes and the water fall , that turned out to be a water flow dropping some 12in. LOL

Some of the most beautiful desert scenery in Southern California. Picturesque sunrises n amazing night skies. Hiked the slot! So much fun and not very difficult for a couple of seniors. One of my favorite finds on our cross country camping trip!

It was nice seeing the metal sculptures in the desert. We also get a chance to hike the South Fork Palm Wash Canyon to see the Arch and other cool rock formations.

Beautiful hikes, well-maintained paths and gorgeous views. We were there for cactus-flowering season, which is super special.

With recent heatwaves in nearby desert, Anza Borrego was ideal temperature to enjoy the end of super bloom season as well as the beginning of Milky Way sighting. Hiking mid morning to nearby oasis was good with enough shade to make it comfortable. Amenities were clean with flush toilets instead of out houses and some provided showers nearby.
