Idyllwild, CA
Free
By Simir Shah
The walkable village core is full of art galleries, ice cream and toy shops, and it's home to Mayor Max — the golden retriever who's served as Idyllwild's honorary mayor since 2012. Kids adore meeting the current Mayor Max and his companion dogs most Thursday–Sunday afternoons. Check mayormax.com before you go.
