Lake Poway Recreation Area

Poway, CA

★★★★★4.6(68 Google reviews)

The heart of family outdoor life in Poway, with a stocked fishing lake, rowboat and pedal-boat rentals, shaded picnic areas and a big playground. Weekday parking is free even for non-residents, so come Monday–Friday to skip the $10 weekend fee. It's also the main trailhead for Potato Chip Rock, so arrive early on weekends before the lot fills.

Parking is $10 for non-Poway residents. Really? The 2.9 mi loop hike is clean but not worth the money. This is my first time paying $ for parking at a lake. There are so many other better hiking areas in San Diego.

Lake Poway park is great, clean, With lots of picnic tables, playground, volleyball courts, baseball fields, plenty of clean restrooms and is kept all green with lots of trees for shade. We been coming here for peaceful picnics and sitting around.

Apparently the people of Poway drink this water, so children can't "play or touch the water"... But the birds can swim in it and actively poop and eat in it. With this logic, the water is not safe to drink in Poway. Kids LOVE water and sand, it's natural, so it's pretty sad that they can't touch it. Don't come here if you're little ones will kick and scream if they can't touch or play in the water. You're going to get yelled at either by them or the rangers. So, it's pretty much a lose lose. Sorry. -Other than that though, beautiful grounds, facilities, great area to walk and explore, and even pretty good play grounds. If you don't have kid's this place is perfect, if you have kids, it's okay.
