  wonderful stop if you’re in the area and want to connect with the outdoors in a meaningful way. It has a calm, welcoming feel that makes it easy to slow down and really take in where you are. The staff and volunteers are consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to share information about the local wildlife, trails, and conservation efforts in the surrounding Big Bear Lake area. It feels educational without being overwhelming, and they do a great job making it approachable for all ages. The setting itself is beautiful, surrounded by the forest and mountain atmosphere, which makes it feel like part of the experience rather than just a visitor center. It’s a great place to stop before or after exploring nearby trails and really adds to the appreciation of the region.

  We had an excellent experience here! I didn’t know what to expect, but from the easy parking to the friendly staff to the terrific guided nature walk to the taxidermy animal exhibits to the gift shop to the outdoor discovery areas- this was a beautiful, fun memory for us! The cost is free. We spent money at the gift shop because my boys found the snacks corner. Special shout-out to Mike, our guide who trekked us on the trail and showed us the different scents of bark and bush leaves! We learned about lichen on trees - "Annie Algae and Freddie Fungus took a lichen to each other" hahaha that mnemonic made my day.

  If you’re in Big Bear, this is a must! I came in the tail end of closing, but the front desk was still super nice about it and let me in to browse real quick. Loved seeing what’s really out here, even we normally do not see it lurking. The little brown bear at the water display was awesome, and probably as authentic as it gets!

  Beautiful place to visit and enjoy nature. There is plenty to see, including birds, bears, and other wildlife. Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and a great place for families or anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Big Bear.

  If you have never been here, or if you live here, this is the go to location to learn everything local in nature or catch a concert in the summer. There are tours with park rangers about local flora and fauna, Jackie and Shadow, and everything Alpine aware. It's a great place to take kids. The center has great displays and the tour guides do a fantastic job educating all who will listen. I LOVE this place.
