A great beach for a relaxing day with family or friends. The area is clean and well-maintained, with a nice picnic zone where you can comfortably sit and enjoy your meal. There are restrooms available, which is always important for longer visits. For those coming with kids, there’s a playground that keeps them entertained while adults can unwind and enjoy the ocean view. Overall, a very convenient and pleasant place to spend time outdoors.

Great family beach! Lots of parking, but they charge, but the hour or daily rates. Lots of room on the sand. Has the Doho cafe right there for food. Surf is great. It's a classic California surf break. It gets pretty crowded though. Lots of surfers out. Mostly slow rolling waves with several peaks, and an inside cove sheltered by the breakwater which is good for kids. You'll find lots of surf school's here and kids in the water. Several lifeguard stations here as well. Can be a little chaotic here. The beach is steep and can create sizeable shore break. The beach extends South for 1/2 mile or more down to the river mouth.

It's a really chill beach! However, as others have mentioned, there's a lot of rocks and sticks... LISTEN to them lol. Sure you can just be barefoot but it would make you more comfortable if you bring water shoes. The waves are small so it's good for beginners to be in and little ones to be near. If you do decide to take a dip in the ocean, there are large rocks at the bottom.. so again, water shoes lol. You have to pay for parking via a QR code but there is ample spaces. If you ever wanted to try surfing or boogie boarding, this place is the spot. Overall 7.5/10.

This amazing beach has a park connected making it great for those seeking park related activities. The ocean side is filled with rocks, so bring your ocean sandals/shoes. The park side has many spots for shade and seating. You can also bring your own grills and equipment. The bathrooms need more maintenance. Overall, a great beach and park that you'll most likely return.

We had such a wonderful time at Doheny State Beach! We came with our 3-year-old son and it was the perfect spot for a family day. The beach is clean, safe, and easy to access. The waves near the shore are gentle, which made it great for little ones to splash and play without us worrying. There are plenty of picnic areas with shade, which made snack time and breaks really comfortable. Our son loved running around in the sand and watching the surfers further out in the water. The bathrooms were well-kept and convenient to get to, which is always a huge plus with a toddler. We also appreciated the family-friendly atmosphere—lots of other kids and families enjoying the day, but it never felt overcrowded. It’s such a relaxed environment, and parking was simple too. We’ll definitely be coming back. Doheny State Beach is now one of our go-to spots for a safe, fun, and stress-free beach day with our little one! 🌊☀️👶
