Over 3,000-acre conservation preserve with miles of hiking and mountain-bike trails and a historic ranch house. English immigrant Robert Daley homesteaded the valley starting around 1869, building it into a working horse, cattle, and dairy ranch before the city acquired the 3,201-acre property for conservation in 1996. The 1925 ranch house still standing has a cobblestone fireplace reportedly built from ballast stones unloaded by old sailing ships at San Diego's Ballast Point.
