A Breathtaking and Educational Experience,Visiting the Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve was a highlight of our trip. The views of the coastline are absolutely stunning, but seeing the harbor seals resting on the beach below was a truly special experience. We visited during the pupping season, so beach access was closed to keep the mothers and babies safe (a policy that remains in place until late May). It was wonderful to see how much the community respects the local wildlife. There were volunteers stationed along the bluffs who were incredibly helpful; they kept the area secure and shared a wealth of information about the seals and the local ecosystem. If you enjoy beautiful nature walks and want a great opportunity to learn about local marine life, this is a must-visit. It was a fantastic, educational, and serene experience!

On this beautiful Earth Day 2026, I take a pause from writing about restaurant reviews and want to instead write about my favorite walk here in Carpinteria. This is a beautiful cliff sidewalk that overlooks the Pacific Ocean where you’ll pass by a sacred seal sanctuary and see the ancient bubbling of the tar pits coming up from the earth. It’s pretty magical and very special. When you take this walk, take it slow don’t be in a rush, look around at all of the beauty nature has given to us from the plants and flowers to the ocean views to the mountain views and the sea life - breathe it all in. Give thanks and carry the gratitude home with you.
