O'Neill Regional Park Arroyo Campground
OC Parks' Arroyo Campground in O'Neill Regional Park has 79 tent and RV sites for up to 8 people each, bookable online, by phone or in person. There are 8 group sites for 17 or more and 5 equestrian sites. Trails close for three days after rain, and the park warns of mountain lions, rattlesnakes and poison oak.

Trabuco Mesa Park
This SAMLARC park at 31504 Avenida de las Flores has big open fields, a trellis-covered picnic shelter, a playground, and lighted tennis and basketball courts. It hosts SAMLARC's annual Great Rancho Campout. RSM parks are privately owned by the SAMLARC homeowners association; the city says most are open to the general public, but SAMLARC's guidelines reserve its facilities for residents and guests, and picnic-shelter permits go to residents only.

SAMLARC Christmas Tree Lighting at Lago Santa Margarita
SAMLARC's annual tree lighting takes place on the lakeshore. In past years Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived by boat, and there was free hot cocoa, cookies and crafts, with photos after the lighting. It's an HOA event billed for 'members and guests', so a non-resident family should go with an RSM friend or check samlarc.org first.

SAMLARC's Fourth of July celebration draws more than 10,000 people to Lago Santa Margarita. The day starts with a Bike & Trike Parade from the Beach Club to the amphitheater, and the evening brings music, face painting and food trucks before close-up fireworks over the lake. The lakeshore activities need no registration, but Beach Club access that day is limited to SAMLARC members chosen by lottery.

A 1.1-mile paved loop around SAMLARC's 11.5-acre lake has five fitness stations, a butterfly garden, a pine grove and the Mercado del Lago shops on the shore. The city promotes the path for walking, jogging and biking, and e-bikes must stay in pedal mode. The lake is HOA property: SAMLARC rules limit fishing to registered residents and their guests, and the gate-card Beach Club swim lagoon is members-only and closed until May 2027.

This SAMLARC park at 21682 Buena Suerte has playgrounds, soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts and picnic areas. The Urban Trail East starts here with its own tot lot for ages 2–5, while the Monte Vista Pool needs a SAMLARC gate card and is unheated in fall and winter.
