Monte Vista Park & Urban Trail
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
Free (the pool is residents-only)
By Simir Shah
This SAMLARC park at 21682 Buena Suerte has playgrounds, soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts and picnic areas. The Urban Trail East starts here with its own tot lot for ages 2–5, while the Monte Vista Pool needs a SAMLARC gate card and is unheated in fall and winter. RSM parks are privately owned by the SAMLARC homeowners association; the city says most are open to the general public, but SAMLARC's guidelines reserve its facilities for residents and guests, and picnic-shelter permits go to residents only.
