Free entry; some attractions paidRobb Field
A large riverside park with a skate park, playgrounds, courts, ball fields and shaded picnic tables along the San Diego River. The skate park is the draw for older kids — helmets and pads are required, so bring them or you'll be turned away at the gate.
FreeNewport Avenue Antique District
Several blocks of antique arcades and thrift shops that work surprisingly well as a rainy-day wander with kids old enough not to grab. Park in the free lot at the west end of Newport near the seawall and walk east — street parking is metered and scarce.
Free to browseOcean Beach Athletic Area Playground
A small grassy park with play equipment set back a block from the sand — useful when the beach wind gets to be too much for little kids. There's a public restroom here, worth knowing when the beach ones are jammed on a summer weekend.
FreeOcean Beach Pier & Beach
Laid-back beach with a wide sandy stretch and a long fishing pier. Opened in 1966 as the longest concrete pier on the West Coast at nearly 2,000 feet, the pier has been closed since storm damage in late 2023 left it structurally unsafe; the city is now planning a full replacement rather than repairs, with construction not expected to start until around 2029. The beach itself remains open and popular for surfing and sunset walks even with the pier off-limits.
