If you are looking for a beautiful setting to take in California history, this is it. The last Nexican governor of California lived on this Ranchito. We went on a Saturday and only saw 4 other people. Everyone was either silent or spoke in hushed voices. Its a sacred place, has a lot of artifacts from the Ranchito in it & carries an air like what you would experience at a California Mission. There are walking paths around the property. No playgrounds, swing sets, picnic tables or BBQs. Come and experience the beauty of our History from the 1800s.

Lovely little piece of history in the middle of Whittier. I highly recommend you call for a free guided tour with one of their super friendly rangers. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and taught us a lot about Pio Pico. One thing that stood out to me was how his lawyer stole this mansion from him due to Pico’s lack of English. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.

A LOT! of history here, sad to see his success be diminished to a couple of acres, yet again glad that at least he got that given how urbanized the surroundings are. You can clearly see how close this place is to its surrounding houses. In fact, there's a wall that divides the historic park to house, Very nice views nevertheless, and even though it's literally hugged by major streets and freeways, it feels very calm and as if you're miles away from the city. Very nice place to visit and a really good place to walk your pets, saw several locals walking dogs and they are very friendly. Also it's a very good place to have a football game with your friends, it even has stadium like sitting lol, no lie, really nice.

Beautiful manicured lawn and buildings. Lots of picnic tables. The mansion feel small compared to today's standards. I was thinking and hoping that it should have at least 10-15 rooms or so but when we were there only three or four rooms were visibly seen and allowed to be entered. The upstairs is off limits. Another thing is, I don't know too much about it because the placards or signs don't tell too much about the history of Mexican rancheros in California. Audio visual teaching aid such as videos would be nice. A lot of the historic places in Texas or Missouri or Arkansas that I visit or national monuments throughout the USA include audio visual aid such as videos. All in all it was a beautiful day and the place is clean and tidy.
