We enjoyed our visit as a step back in time. The 4th out 19 Missions , founded in 1771 near Rio Hondo about 5 miles away from this site. It was in 1775, the Franciscan priest moved it to its current location.

We're working our way north, visiting the missions as we go. San Gabriel provides a glimpse of the relationship between the missionaries and the native populations, how each viewed the other, and how their roles in the community have evolved. I felt the museum and grounds focused on the people and their lives. A MUST visit place.

Nice mission with lovely church and grounds to explore. Entrance is $15 with senior and youth discounts available. Passport stamps are available in the gift shop. Ask the sales associate for them. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Beautiful Mission, the 3rd we’ve visited on this trip. Hope to someday visit all 21! Please note that, if you visit on Sunday (as we did), mass is held at 7 and 10 am (no visitors until mass is over. The mission is accessible, with wide paved ways. There is a cemetery on the grounds (1778). Beautiful gardens.
