Dixie Canyon Park
Sherman Oaks, CA
Free
By Simir Shah
A deeply shaded 20-acre preserve of black walnut and coast live oak, donated to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy by Warren Beatty in 1986. A hiking-only trail climbs the canyon, starting beside a perennial stream, so it's cool on hot Valley days and good for adventurous kids who can handle a narrow dirt path. There's only street parking at the end of Dixie Canyon Place, and MRCA's listing gives a Studio City address even though the park sits above Sherman Oaks.
