  I’m very disappointed with my experience at Great Park Ice. I have spent a lot of money here on public sessions, private lessons, and classes because my goal is actually to improve and move forward not just collect a certificate. I followed the evaluation process and worked consistently on the skills I was told to practice. My biggest issue is the inconsistency with evaluations. Ellie evaluated me about 1.5–2 months ago and placed me into Adult 3. At that evaluation, she never told me that I specifically needed to “scrape/shave the ice” during the snowplow stop in order to advance. I then spent weeks taking private lessons and practicing. My private coach felt I was ready for Adult 4. At my next evaluation, I completed the other required skills, but suddenly I was told I could not move forward because of that one specific detail with the snowplow stop. I was even asked why my private coach had not taught it to me. My question is: if this was such an important requirement, why wasn’t it pointed out during my previous evaluation? That is the frustrating part. You cannot give someone an evaluation, tell them what level to work on, let them spend weeks and hundreds of dollars practicing, and then introduce a very specific requirement later and send them back to repeat another full course. I have also seen similar inconsistency with evaluations involving Ellie and Jacob. Some skaters seem to move forward while still missing basic skills, while others are held back over one very specific technical detail. That makes the process feel subjective instead of consistent. I’m not saying standards should be lowered. I actually want proper instruction and higher-level skills. But the standards need to be clearly communicated, consistently evaluated, and applied equally to everyone. Otherwise it starts to feel like people are being kept in lower levels longer and paying for more classes instead of being helped to progress. The customer experience outside the ice could also use improvement. The food/snack options have often bad quality and overall the facility could benefit from more attention from management to quality and customer concerns. Great Park Ice is a beautiful facility, but for the amount families and adult skaters spend here, the evaluation process and customer service should be much more consistent, transparent, and fair. This place may look beautiful from the outside, but after my experience, it has become one of the ugliest facilities to me. It really proves the saying: don’t judge a book by its cover.

  Our family has been visiting Great Park Ice for over a year, and it has become a meaningful part of our lives. My son loves ice hockey, and my daughter enjoys figure skating. The welcoming environment and skilled, friendly coaches make it a fantastic place to learn. While everything is wonderful, I do have two concerns. First, I frequently notice different individuals smoking outside, which is disappointing given the number of children at the facility. Secondhand smoke is harmful, and since smoking in public spaces is prohibited in Irvine, I hope the facility will reinforce this rule more effectively. Additionally, during peak hours, some cars block the entrance instead of quickly dropping off their kids, leading to congestion. Despite these two issues, Great Park Ice remains an excellent place for young skaters. Addressing these concerns would make the experience even better.
