Free to visit; encounters and camps priced separately
By Simir Shah
★★★★★4.4(902 Google reviews)
A nonprofit centre where families can meet adoptable animals for free, plus a humane-education program with live animal ambassadors, hands-on feeding and crafts. The paid encounters book out well ahead, especially in summer — reserve rather than turning up hopeful. It's about ten minutes inland from Del Mar.

I wish I knew about this amazing pet hospital much sooner. Our dog was really sick, I took her to this facility for a second opinion, what a great place. Very friendly staff, polite, caring, great prices, with lots of love for animals, and their owners. Dr. Clark is an amazing doctor. She’s a true angel with a big heart. Unfortunately we had to put our dog to sleep. The day of, Dr. Clark and the amazing nurses put lots of love and support to our dog and us. It’s been a month since we lost our Ava, I came home and found a beautiful sympathy card with everyone’s signature in our mail box🤍 I highly recommend this hospital. Thanks to everyone at Helen Woodward hospital .

This is the only place I would recommend for adoption. The staff is extremely kind and attentive to your needs. Compared to SD humane society, this place is top notch, clean and extremely efficient. They update their website daily and there are no surprises when adopting any pet.
