Mojave River Valley Museum

Barstow, CA

★★★★★4.6(241 Google reviews)

This friendly free museum near the Barstow Road exit covers local desert history from mammoth fossils to Native American artifacts and pioneer days. A quick, low-key stop that's easy on little attention spans, and the volunteers happily point families toward other desert sights.

True hidden gem containing a wealth of knowledge, prestigious artifacts, and humble people. To our understanding, the museum is operated solely by volunteers. Staff were actively organizing/planning future displays during our visit which exhibits just how passionate they are about the preservation of rich history and vivid storytelling. It truly was a pleasure and find it admirable what they do. Additionally, Oliver the Museum Mascot was a wonderful greeter to visitors!

Great little museum. Right across the street from the Barstow Park. Really nice people in the store running the museum. I'm impressed as to the collection indoors and outdoors. Very educational. Really great little stop if you have young kids learning about Route 66.
