This Newhall gem was silent-film cowboy William S. Hart's ranch, left to the public free forever, and it still has a herd of American bison descended from animals Walt Disney donated in 1962. Kids love the barnyard, then you can hike up to the hilltop mansion for valley views. Come on a cooler morning — the bison and the walk up are more pleasant before midday heat.
