Mile Square Regional Park
Lakes for pedal boats and fishing, a nature area, and a big splash-friendly playground — a versatile park for a full day out. The 607-acre park sits on land the Navy first used for WWII-era airfields before Orange County leased it in 1967 to build the regional park in phases through the 1970s. Tucked inside is a 20-acre native-plant nature area, a quieter counterpoint to the ballfields and golf courses that fill most of the site.

Jack O'Lantern Jamboree (Garden Grove)
The city's annual pumpkin party at Atlantis Play Center has a pumpkin patch, reptile show, crafts, obstacle courses, face painting and carnival games; children 2 to 10 get a goody bag and pumpkin. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Oct 6, pre-registration is required and there are no ticket sales at the door. Tip: costumes are encouraged and food (kettle corn, shaved ice) is sold on site, so buy tickets the first week.

Winter in the Grove
Garden Grove's holiday celebration at Village Green Park with school and dance performances, holiday crafts, inflatables, a craft boutique, Santa and Mrs. Claus, and 'Snowtopia' with nine snow slides made from 50 tons of snow. The city page does not state an admission price. Tip: snow-slide lines get long, so go right at 3pm.
