A summit hike in the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge, about 2.1 miles one way (4.2 round trip) with roughly 870 feet of climbing, so it best suits school-age kids. Park at the end of Paseo Veracruz behind Mount San Miguel Park, which has the only restrooms. Leashed dogs are allowed. Skip the trail after rain, and avoid the unofficial path heading north from the gate.
