HB's July 4th celebration dates back to 1904 and is billed as the largest Independence Day event west of the Mississippi, drawing more than 500,000 people. The day includes the Surf City 5K, a downtown parade (broadcast live 10am–noon), and fireworks over the ocean. Expect street closures and full lots, so plan to arrive very early or bike in.
